ECOLOGICAL HORTICULTURE LAB

The Ecological Horticulture Lab is in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  The intent of this lab is to strengthen the connection between horticulture and ecology using a multi-faceted approach, including ecophysiological, whole-plant, and molecular methods.

Within this endeavor, some research topics include determining what makes a plant species invasive, finding and studying rare or otherwise unknown woody plant species that may be tolerant of stresses found in urban landscapes, and determining propagation protocols for difficult-to-germinate prairie species for use in restoration efforts as well as landscape settings.
