ACADEMIC INTERESTS AND EXPERTISE
One of my research goals is to help determine what makes a plant species invasive. My approach is multifaceted, including ecophysiological, whole-plant, and molecular methods.

I am also interested in finding and studying rare or otherwise unknown woody plant species that may be tolerant of stresses found in urban landscapes. Another research focus of mine is to determine propagation protocols for difficult-to-germinate prairie species for use in restoration efforts as well as landscape settings.

Besides being interested in native plants of North America, I am also interested in plants of northern Asia, particularly Korea and China. Some of my research efforts will be focused on the ecology and propagation of Asian plant species that may merit introduction into North American for ornamental purposes. Assessing their invasive potential will also be a key component of my program.
