ECOLOGICAL HORTICULTURE LAB

In one of nature’s most fascinating quandaries, water evaporates from the stomata of plants in order to facilitate the inward diffusion of carbon dioxide for eventual fixation.  Our lab is interested in furthering the knowledge of water use in plants, both at the whole-plant and plant community levels.  Unlike the water use of grasses and other herbaceous plants, which can be estimated in a fairly straightforward fashion, the water use of trees is more difficult to quantify due to their three-dimensional nature.  We use sensors and methods to estimate water at both individual and community levels.
